Pre-Primer & Primer Sight Word Motion Freebie Update!

I am very excited to share with ALL my readers (preschool, kindergarten, first grade, second grade, and beyond) my updated Pre-Primer and Primer Sight Word Motion Freebie!  I had an overwhelming response to the original file and so I wanted to improve it to include as many words as I could!  So here it is!

Now, coming up with motion for over 100 words was not easy!  So I turned out sign language for many of them.  If they are sign they have a star next to them so you can look up the exact motion if you choose to.  However, please note that the intention here is to create Total Physical Response to Sight Words and so the description on those is my interpretation of the sign as best I could.  Many words I also had created more meaningful motions for our students that were not sign language.  (They are about half and half.)  Again, trying make recall faster for sight words by adding movement.  Some words have changed, so I included the original file in the document in case you want those.  I also uploaded it in Word format so you can make changes if you wish!  One thing that I have done for my class is I make the words red.  Red means stop and think... you cannot sound it out!  (Then we have green words that are go ahead and sound them out... but that's a story for a different day!)

So go grab your free Sight Word Motions update!  I am sure you will love it!  I know it has drastically changed my students ability to learn these words!

Thanks and enjoy the rest of your weekend!

Alphabet Hats

I usually don't post only for purchase products but I am really excited about this one.  I started this project about 3 months ago, then I found out I was expecting AND it got pushed to the back burner!  I am finally feeling better and spent the entire day finishing it.  (My husband is not very happy right now... LOL considering the sticker chart post earlier today!)  But I wanted to share!

Finally finished one of my favorite things to do in Kindergarten... Alphabet Hats!

The set includes one cool hat for each letter of the alphabet!  Click any above image to stop by to see!

You Know You're a Teacher When.... Don't Hate!

Those who really know me know that I am one of the honest, most sarcastic people you will ever meet!  So here is my contribution to Kindergarten Lifestyles You Know You're a Teacher When Linky Party!

So before I get hate mail and comments... it's only a joke.  I have never really put my husband on a sticker chart (although the thought has obviously crossed my mind!)  We all have our low points in life right... don't judge mine!  (Said with love!)  Click the image if you want to download for free!  Hop on over to see other great responses!

Two DIBELS Freebies

I noticed the other day that my Non-Sense Word Fluency Monthly Practice Freebie was download many, many times and so I decided to create a similar page for Letter Naming Fluency and then share with you all how I use them with my students!  I started using this concept about a month ago and my progress monitoring scores are just shooting through the roof and I completely contribute this to implementing the following ideas into my daily classroom routines.

The first thing I did was I started using "Good Work Folders."  This is just a folder with three prongs and a bunch of sheet protectors in them.  I can customize or individualize what goes into it for each student and so I love them!  Two items in this folder are my DIBELS practices pages I have posted for free!  When students come in from recess or if they finish work early they can practice these pages.   Or sometimes we just practice with the whole class we read these pages together.  Sometimes I will time them and say 'ready go' and sometimes I give them sand timers.  (I also have kids put unfinished work in this same folder so they have a safe place to put it to work on it when they have time.)

First page is the Letter Naming Fluency practice page.  Kids practice reading a mixture of upper and lower case letters for speed and accuracy.  Sometimes I will have them circle the upper and cross out the lower case letters too to reinforce that concept.

The next page is Non Sense Word Fluency. We practice as a group saying each sound and them blending them back together (after all you have to remember to composite score can keep kids from being benchmark... see the post DIBELS I Did Not Realize!)   I have also updated this document because I realize now that first grade does these pages at the beginning of the year

I also keep this hundreds chart in my Good Work Folders.  Now when students are counting to 100 they are pointing to the numbers and making that connection.  We have also used dry erase markers to color in doubles or color in all the numbers that have 2's in them.  It's really got the kids looking at the number system and how it works!

My good work folders also have various other practice pages such as sight words that match our reading programs and number and color words.  I really feel like putting the content at the student's fingertips is making a huge difference.  Hopefully you will too!

Have a great Sunday!

"Mail Myself To You" V-Day Freebie

One last freebie for Valentine's Day for you!  Again, another favorite project this time of year (and really all year!)

It's two versus from Woodie Guthrie's song Mail Myself To You.  Follow the directions in the poem and literally mail your student's to someone they love (thier parent's of course!)

Kid's will love this project and I hope you do too!  Happy Saturday everyone!
